How full is full? Last week we did a neat science experiment to see just that. We started with a full glass of water and dropped quarters into the glass, watching to see when it would overflow. Everyone got to guess how many quarters we could put in the glass before it would flow over. Some guessed 5, some 10, some 13. We actually got about 25 quarters in the glass--and it still didn't flow over. The shape of the water on top changed, but the glass never spilled over. (Click here for directions to do the experiment at home.)
In our Bible lesson we learned that Caleb was given the chance to choose which piece of the Promised Land he wanted. Remember that he and Joshua had been spies in the land 40 years earlier and they knew that there were giants in the land. Knowing that, you would think Caleb would want the piece of land furthest away--but he chose the land where the giants were. WHY? you might ask. Because God had made Caleb this promise years before "...because Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will to bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it." God promised to give him the land and that he would be with him there.
Caleb served God fully. What does it look like to serve God the way Caleb did? To serve God fully means that every single part of our lives say that we are God's followers. Every word we speak, every attitude that we have, every action we take should be like a big sign that says, "I follow God FULLY."
How are YOU serving God? He doesn't want just part of you--he wants ALL of you!
See you Wednesday for WATER NIGHT!
